Using a pushbutton to control cues
Re: Using a pushbutton to control cues
My clicker is different but I worked out how to make it work with SCS.
Simple really: I selected the function I wanted the clicker key to perform in the key mapping table then just clicked the key.
I found out mine uses Pg Up and Pg Down as forward and backwards and B as the STOP key.
I assigned them as:
Back - Up one cue
Forwards - Go
Stop - All stop
Works fine although it's never been as good as some models over a large distance.

I use rtp_midi to send and receive midi controls over a LAN
It woks well over wireless and cable and is usually the only thing running on the network.

You can use the midi out for scs to trigger other programs that take midi in.

Of course, if you have a soldering iron, you can dismantle an old mouse and connect two wires to the right mouse button. Put the whole mouse PCB in a convenient diecast box and fix a pushbutton into the end. Connect the wires from the mouse to the button and you have a strong reliable switch. My laptop will accept both the plugged-in 'mouse' and the built-in mouse pad, so I still have full mouse control.

What iPad app are you using to design and run this control surface? TouchOSC?sjwicks wrote:After some futher trial and error (and much googling), I have successfully designed a controll surface on the ipad which controlls the Go STOP PAUSE, Master volume, Up one cue, Down one Cue and GOTO TOP of cues.

Hi
For the Ipad, I used the TouchOSC app together with the software from TouchOSC Editor software from Hexler.net. It took a bit of trial and error to get it all connected via wireless. But still works as orginally designed.
However, most of the time, I use the Yamaha M7CL sound desk, so my set up is as follows:
Separate Wireless router setup and connected to the M7CL and Laptop. I use the Yamaha Stagemix app on the ipad to adjust levels, EQ etc from within the auditorium. I also use a RDP app on the Ipda to remote desktop onto the Laptop and control SCS. This works very well in the tech rehearsal. Once everything is "set", I can use the TouchOSC control SCS. But to be honest, I haven't used it this way for some time now.
Hope this helps

A company called PI engineering makes a product called X-keys which are all manner of mappable keyboards and interfaces for using your own buttons etc. I don't use one for SCS, but I do for some of my other applications. Simple to set up and works like a champ.

Re: Using a pushbutton to control cues
I just bought this to play with, it only cost $5 and should reduce the control surface footprint

I plan to map GO to the Enter key, and Fade All to some other key and probably physically remove the NUM LOCK key.
It has arrows and page keys too which will allow some basic movement around the cue file without having to go to the real keyboard.

Re: Using a pushbutton to control cues
If you use a programme called 'Keytweak' you can remap the numeric keypad to send any single key code you like,
I've remapped the numeric 'Enter' key to send a space so I can use either the normal keyboard spacebar or the numeric 'enter' as a 'Go' command
I use it with a wireless numeric keypad

Re: Using a pushbutton to control cues
Hexler has recently released a MIDI Bridge program for PC which works with TouchOSC to input MIDI through wireless. I've been looking at TouchOSC for some time now and really want to try this out. But I'm fairly new to the MIDI world and am having difficulty figuring out how to map the TouchOSC keys so that they work. I've built my own layout similar to Simon's from earlier in this post. If anybody could help me work out the basics or point me to a resource that I could use that would help, I would be very grateful.
Re: Using a pushbutton to control cues
Hi folks,
shortly I found this article (in German) about a DIY- remote for VLC. Should work with SCS, too.
