how to fade a subcue?

Post by dlh » Wed Sep 19, 2007 5:16 am

Forgive this naive question from a brand new user.

You can start two sounds in the same cue, but is it possible to end one independent of the other? i.e., is it possible to fade a subcue without fading the entire cue?

Possible workarounds I can think of would be (1) use two separate cues, the later autofollowing 0 seconds after the first, or (2) apply a level-change all the way to zero and then tell the operator to kill it manually after the level-change finishes.

I don't like (1) because I'd like the operator to not have to see any cues with which they don't interact, and (2) is extra work for the operator. Am I missing something.

I suggest adopting 'workaround 2', ie apply a level change to fade the level to minimum, but there's no need for the operator to kill this - you can just let it continue silently while the audio file plays out. The operator will, of course, continue to see the sub-cue playing in the lower part of the screen, but you do have the option to hide sub-cues. See the menu option View / Hide Sub-Cues in Cue Panel.
