Loop crossfades or ability to zoom in on waveform? (in 10.1)

Mike,

A few of us had asked about loop crossfades in the past, to make looping ambience cues a little easier. I was wondering if the outlook is good for adding this feature.

SCS 9 gave us the ability to set loop in and loop out points, and made it very easy to move them with the arrow keys. These features are leaps and bounds beyond SCS 8! Thank you. I'm still spending a lot of time, however, trying to find inaudible loop points for sounds like ambience cues and drum rolls. It would even be helpful to have a zoom in/out feature to be able to find a zero crossing so that I can place the loop in/out points at zero crossings, which would eliminate the audible "click" at the loop point.

One idea that may be simpler than finding a way to do the loop crossfade would be to add a "Smoothing" option that could add a 0.01 second fade out to the loop out point, and a 0.01 second fade in to the loop in point. It would be audible, but less so than the "click" that I hear at the loop point because of the amplitude difference between the sound at the in and out points. Ultimately, an adjustable crossfade would be the best option though.

Thanks for taking the time!

I had a spot of trouble with the loop cross-fade. I wrote the code planning to include the facility in 9.2.1, and basically it worked, but I sometimes got a slight click at the end of the cross-fade so I had to pull it out of 9.2.1. With the change to the distribution method in 9.2 there were a few issues encountered by users trying to install onto a new machine, but now that has been sorted out I'll get back to the loop cross-fade feature.

Zooming in on the graph is still a while off. I've got a few other features I'm working on, as well as trying to find time to redesign my web site!

Mike,

Thanks for the response. I'm happy that you're taking the time to figure it out. Loop crossfades would add so much value to SCS for my purposes and I'm glad it's important to you too! Zooming isn't really that important to me, if I have the ability to add a crossfade to the loop point!

Thanks again!
