[Fix 11.9.0] Video playback problems

Post by tuxmos » Fri Nov 19, 2021 10:30 pm

Hi Mike,
I have two serious problems with Showcue.
1. If I embed video files with a 48kHz sound track, the playback via a 48kHz Dante (Audinate AVIO USB) sounds like a badly coded MP3. The same 44.1kHz video file sounds absolutely clean. The console system (Yamaha Rivage) runs completely on 48kHz. By the way, if I play the same 48kHz video file via VLC via the Dante interface, everything is OK. I suspect the fault in the TVG engine, which obviously runs internally at 44.1kHz but makes mistakes when sampling back and forth.

2. When I run a show with video files, it can happen that, for example, I fade out and stop the video file in a cue, then from this moment when the file stops, Showcue does not react for a while and does not execute any commands, although it does but to be accepted. (Go via Midi) The Go command is then carried out after approx. 5 seconds. It is probably due to the reloading of the next video files. During this time the surface does not react. Same effect with "Stop All" in a show with videos, regardless of whether video playback is currently being stopped or only audio. Increasing the number of video files that are principally kept in memory (options) alleviates the problem during the running time of the show, but naturally extends the start process of Showcue considerably, as well as the "waiting time" at "Stop All", but both of these is halfway bearable.
Is it possible in principle to decouple the surface and its ability to react to e.g. Midi commands from these loading processes?
Otherwise it would mean that I would have to outsource the video playback to another program in order to be able to run the rest of the show reliably.
But then I lose all status information such as the time code of the video files and control options. I don't find this view so great.
For example, I have a show in which I only give Showcue video and control commands to the mixer, projector and Ableton Live and therefore have no real progress indicator for the audio feed. That is very suboptimal, but unfortunately there is no other way in this case, because the musician gave me the Ableton project and the audio programming cannot be easily changed in Showcue.

Best regards

1. TVG does have an 'audio format' property that can be set for 48kHz. Currently SCS does not set this property at all which means TVG uses a default setting. I'll look into dynamically setting this property to match the audio sample rate of the file. I can't promise that will fix the issue as I don't know how TVG currently handles the 'default' setting.

2. Please email me your cue file (the .scs11 file).
