VST Plugin

Post by PhilVale » Tue Jan 15, 2019 3:30 am

Mike,

Good news with the VST's saves having to use Adobe Audition and exporting every time I want to adjust an EQ setting or similar.

So playing with the feature for my next production and I suspect I know the answer to this.

Is it possible to turn on and off a VST plugin for a cue that is playing either via a cue (similar to pan or level change) or otherwise, eg a hot key?

Situation:
A phone mobile phone rings in a pocket (play phone ring using an EQ VST to muffle the sound making it sound as if it's in a pocket). I want to then be able to turn that EQ off as the actor takes the mobile out of their pocket so the ring plays clear.

The only other possibilities I can see at the moment are 1) have a the same effect playing in parallel but unmuffled and no volume. The, with impeccable timing I could probably crossfade from muffled to clear - a little bit hit and miss, but I could probably make it work and live with it. Or 2) use the EQ on the sound desk which I usually play through anyway and issue MIDI commands to turn on and off a preset EQ (all a bit cumbersome really).

Unless anybody knows otherwise!!!!

Turning on or off the VST Bypass by another cue is not currently available, but it's a good idea. We could possibly add this action to the SFR cue.

That's what I would suggest for now. Set up a cue with two sub-cues playing the same audio file but with the second sub-cue audio level initially muted. SCS will link these two sub-cues which will keep the timing in sync when you play the cue. Then have a separate Level Change cue to fade out the first sub-cue and fade-in the second sub-cue. And, of course, an SFR cue to stop the cue altogether when required.

And may I suggest a fader on VST parameters in Level change cues too, while we are at it.

Mike,

As always, thanks for your reply. I have got your suggestion working fine.

Yes a bypass VST option would be useful on SFR cue.

I appreciate changing VST parameters would be tough, but what might also be useful is the ability to switch VST's and/or assign multiple VST's to an cue so these can be turned on/off via bypass options on the SFR cue.

Just ideas and I'm not sure how much call there would be for these given they can probably be done using techniques you and I suggested.

Hi Mike

Any news about bypass VST on SFR cue?

Also - have you come any closer to solve the save settings problems through BASS_VST? I would very much like to get my VST Metaplugin saving my settings, or have the possibility to add more than 1 VST plugin per cue.

And It could be vey nice if you could add VST plugin options in live inputs too.

Regards,

Brian

All settings should be saved OK, including 'chunk' settings. Could you email me a log file from a run in which you have tried this? Also, a download link for the plugin would be helpful.

Ran this by Richmond Sound Design earlier. I don't expect it to be available in SoundMan-Server anytime soon.

Hi Mike

Thanks for reply.

Attached is the log file and here´s the link for download page: https://ddmf.eu/downloads/

The plugin you should download is called Metaplugin - (Demo Win).

Also I am experiencing SCS crashes with some of the other VST plugins.

Regards,

Brian
