I note that there have been any number of issues reported with the fading in/out of a video cue to the next video cue. One of the observations was that the video did not fade out but the second video faded in on top of it. I would be alright with that, if I could get the video to do that. What I get, instead is a black burp and then Video2 fades in.
Here is what I am trying to do:
I have a Video1 loop (5 minutes looping scene with cloud movement) which runs for ~45 minutes (pre-show). This projection is also the first scene in the play.
At the appointed time, I want to fade that Video1 out and bring up Video2 - which starts with a set of frames from Video1 and then cross-fades to a still which is then the backdrop for Scene2.
I was hoping to use this technique many times over the course of the production (in January), as I have a lot of different video loops going on while the scenes play out in front.
A) I have tried just bringing up the still image and fading in, but it blacks out Video1 before fading in instead of just fading in over it.
B) I have tried putting it all into one video and then having Q1 run the video 0:00-5:00 and looping then Q2 launches the same video at 4:55 and runs for 8 seconds, allowing the cross-fade. I get a black burp in there as it starts the fade-in
C) I have tried putting it into two videos - having Q1 loop the video and then Q2 launches the second video and runs for 8 seconds. I do not get the black burp, but I may get a jarring sudden cloud movement if the loop is not close to the same cloud position (but a fade in would solve that)
D) I HAVE NOT re-rendered the video to create a 45 minute run of the 5 minute loop, and have everything else in there and cleverly using Pause-Position-Resume cues, but we will still suffer the jarring sudden cloud movement as that won't give me the smooth fade over.
I am now using 11.8 Beta 3

Re: Video and Fading In/Out
Cross-fading videos has frequently been a problem and we are currently trying to sort this out. Something you could try with A), ie the still image option, is to clear the checkbox 'Use 2D drawing library for still images' under Options / Video driver Settings. I suggest you close and restart SCS after making and saving this change.
Re: Video and Fading In/Out
Hi mountaindreambc,
If I understood you right, I've done this in some productions.
I set the same fade in and fade out time in both files, I set the cross fade time to the same value in "Transition to next file" for the first looped video.
I tested it with 11.8b3 now.
Regards,
Lluís
