Audio cues freezing/not playing

Post by AlexI3 » Sun Oct 09, 2016 7:55 am

I'm not at the theater right at the moment but I'll try to get all the other necessary information when I go tonight, create a diagnostic file, etc. We have two rack mounted computers running Windows 10 off of BootCamp with a Mac OS. Both computers are hooked into their own rack mounted Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 soundcards using ASIO drivers. Not sure what version of SCS.

Basically, while a sound cue was playing on Computer 1, I hit the next cue and the audio stopped. The volume meters at the top of SCS were frozen in the position they were in when the audio stopped. The Software was not frozen though. I could hit a fade cue for example and it would run through it normally. However, no audio cues would play. I'd hit them, and they'd advance to the next cue, but they simply wouldn't start. By this I mean, specifically, the bar along the bottom showing position in the sound file would not advance at all. There was no error message. I'd go into edit mode and it would do the same thing; I hit play and the bar wouldn't move. Closing and reopening SCS didn't fix it, the audio cues would still not play.

I switched to computer 2 for the rest of act 1. During intermission, I rebooted the system and it went back to working normally on computer 1. Unfortunately, after about 30 minutes, I hit a level change cue and the same thing happened. Meters froze, audio stopped, but the software remained otherwise responsive.

On a side note, both computers are reprehensibly slow to boot up. I'm talking like 4 or 5 minutes after boot up before they've finished launching everything and become completely responsive. I'm not sure why. No one is using them for anything; browsing the web, installing things or anything like that.

I've seen the issue of audio cues not playing before on both computers, and would fix it by rebooting. However, this is the first time I've seen the audio actually stop while a cue is playing, and enter into this mode of not being able to start audio cues. In my totally unprofessional estimation, I'm guessing the computers are just slow/bogged down and the ASIO drivers are freezing up, but I really don't know if that's the case or how I would fix it if it were.

Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks

I've emailed you details of a tracing version to run.
