'Replace With' command

Hi Mike,

The Import Cues feature is a really useful one but has shortcomings in certain circumstances. For instance . . . If you're importing a cue that is eventually going to replace another one that already has other cues referring to it, you have to alter all those other cues one by one. These are often SFR or Auto-Start cues.

I'm suggesting that maybe a 'Replace With' command could be added to the 'Import Cue File' section. You would first select the file that is to be replaced and then import its replacement. The replacement file could be sourced from within the same production or from others. Obviously the file type would have to be the same. The big advantage would be that all the attributes (method of starting, audio level, fade times etc) of the original would remain and that any other file that referred to it would still be valid.

Playlists and Slideshows would also benefit from this 'Replace With' feature . . The incoming files may already exist, or 'master' Playlists and Slideshows could be created elsewhere and used to update older versions. For instance, at the moment I'm running a series of 5 different shows every 2 months that all use the same Slideshow. The Slideshow itself gets added to each time. I would like to be able to create a 'master' Slideshow where I would undertake all the changes and then replace the relevant Slideshows in each of the aforementioned productions.

Worth a thought? . . . I'd love to hear anyone else's views!

Enough's enough . . my brain hurts now!

Cheers . . . Martin

I know that the DAW Reaper has a "Replace FX" feature allowing the user to replace one effects plug-in with another without having to move it in the effects chain order. That makes it easy to make changes. In SCS, it would certainly streamline the process of replacing cues with imported ones, and hopefully have the dependent SFR and Level Change cues just reference the replacement cue.
