Coping with actor errors

Post by simontl » Wed Feb 10, 2016 1:42 am

There is a good thread on operator error (double go) but can anyone offer any tips for handling actor errors eg skipping lines with a cue, (with no background fx, with background fx or sub-cues)? And what about an actor who repeats lines with a cue?

I know that a single escape stops the current cue, but is it better to use the transport controls to fade?

I am new to SCS and sound operating so please be gentle. Thanks.

Hi,

If I need a music background but I do not know how much time will the actor need, I use a very long background music o a loop and two cues triggered at the same time with the fade out and the start of the next thing (video, audio, effect or a combination of all).

I played a show where an actor spoke with himself (previously recorded and projected in a screen). I recorded each sentence of the pojected actor with very log tails where the recorded actor is not speaking. Each time the recorded actor must answer I triggered the answer cue that overlaps the waiting tail of the previous cue.

If I must play an effect that has a begin and a special end I break it into two effects and I loop the first one (or I make it longer than needed), to wait the appropriate moment to trigger the ending part of the effect. I've done this with audio or video or both.
If you cannot create two separated files, you can add two copies of the same file and set the begin, loop and end points needed for each cue.

And do not forget you can add, for example, a key triggered fade out cue that can fade out any audio playing cue while a video cue still remains playing. This is better than ESC that stops all. You can have some keytriggered cues to fix any unspected event.

If there is any specific situation on which you need help, ask in the general forum. There are a lot of people that do a lot of complex things using great tricks.

Lluís

Hi Simonti

I've found that a good idea is to have an SFR cue, set with a 2 second fade out of all playing cues which I then set up with a "Trigger" button (normally the '0' key on the numerical key pad) and cover it with some white PVC tape so that it stands out on the keyboard for quick reference.
It has saved the day on many occasions.
