SCS midi control of Soundcraft SI Expression 2 mixer

Post by AVCN Services LLC » Sun Aug 16, 2015 1:52 am

Hello. I am new to midi, but I want to call the presets of a Soundcraft SI 2 mixer from SCS. I have a Midi adapter cable. How do you set up the SCS to call the presets? I need to turn on/off several blocks of wireless mics on the Soundcraft SI 2.

Thank you very much for any guidance.

Hi AVCN,
I'm using Si Performer 1&2 and SCS to recall cues.
When you create snapshot (STORE BUTTON) enter CUE LIST > EDIT CUE on Si.
You need to enable Midi RECEIVE (Program change /ON ) and assign program number (1-128) and Channel (Omni,1-16)
Use program number for cue number and Channel to address mixer (do not use Omni as it will receive all channels and can activate cue when another device receives midi command)

In SCS use Control send devices and set it up as MIDI Out /name it MIDI or whatever you like
In the Control Send Cue:
Choose control send device
Message Type: MIDI Program Change (0-127 or 1-128 - you need to test which one will work 1:1, in my case it is oddly 0-127)
Channel: choose your mixer / cue channel
Program #: write your corresponding mixer cue number

REMEMBER that Si can only execute cue change or cue send and nothing else... No fancy control of individual faders or controls. Just snapshots and that is it.

As it can be tiresome to build up a lot of MIDI activated cues on Si, have strategy and make snapshots that can serve multiple times with same parameters whenever possible.

It works well, and response is instant in audio path, but motorized faders show very small delay.

Word of advice if using LEXICON and midi cues. Do not mute lexicon output in cues. Mute instead mic source or Lex input otherwise you will get nasty cut-off that sound unnantural.

Midi control works in opposite direction too, just choose on the mixer MIDI Transmit and in SCS Cue Control Devices but it can be a bit tedious to build many cues and go thru cues on the mixer to activate SCS.

Happy triggering!
