Artnet Support

Post by DorotheaTeknik » Sat Nov 09, 2013 11:03 pm

Hi
I would like to be able to control SCS via ArtNet.
We have the miniwing version of MagicQ (a pc version) and are looking for a media server program to use with magic Q.

A complete mediaserver integration into MagicQ would be perfect (using SCS only as media server, and using magicQ to choose cues etc.)

But until then ;-) a support of artnet as a complement to DMX would be great enabling control of SCS over Ethernet and even when magicQ and SCS is on same PC.

I've had a few requests for Art-Net support so I'm planning to include this in 11.2.6. If you can assist with testing, Kenneth, that would be great!

I can also do some testing for you. I have an ENTTEC Open DMX Ethernet (ODE) device that can receive DMX and generate Art-Net packets for SCS.

Would it be possible to also add E1.31 support?

This is the newest up and coming DMX over Ethernet protocol that has been embraced by the DYI lighting guys like me. It is very simple to implement and supports a huge number of Universes. There are also cheap solutions to convert E1.31 to raw RS485 DMX.

Here is an example of a 6 port (universe) board for around $80 as a kit.

I have personally created and coded Arduino E1.31 based props for our theater, they use 2.4Ghz radio chips to relay the E1.31 packets wirelessly. They work great. I would be happy to beta test this support as well.

Here is a link to the actual spec of the protocol.

E1.31_(Streaming-ACN)_Protocol

It would be great if this was bi directional, in other words to be able to send E.131 packets to trigger something in sync with the Cue, or to receive E.131 packets to trigger a cue!!!

(Edited to display the spec link correctly - Mike Daniell)

I am +1 for e1.31 support, I am willing and able to help with testing if necessary.
