I operate SCS with a laptop and USB soundcard. The soundcard is connected permanently at the theatre. I have found that this means I cannot work on a show at home as once a show is set up with cues for multiple speakers that show can only be accessed when connected to the sound card ( ie there is no "set up" mode) if one tries to open the show it goes into a loop only exited from by trial and error such as changing the shows production set up. I hesitate to try this again close to a production date.
- Am I missing something simple ?
-or am I asking for a potentially risky option ?
The reason I use a laptop is because of worries about security at the theatre, even though I suffer from interference on the system from time to time - random (crackles
etc)

Re: laptop and USB soundcard
In your case you could set up two device maps for your laptop, one for the theatre interface and the other for your built-in audio device. Please read help section "Audio Output Devices" under "The Editor -> Production Properties" for guidance. Then you can switch between the two maps depending on your location.
Hope this helps.
