Making the best use of SSD

Post by simontl » Sat May 27, 2017 3:57 am

I note the comments in the Help that cue files do well placed on an SSD.

Is there a setting somewhere to help SCS cache files on an SSD - I presume it does that or is it in memory?

And is it worth moving SCS onto the SSD, possibly with Windows too?

Thanks.

If you want to get all your files onto SSD then the easiest solution is to use Collect Production Files, setting the 'Production Folder' to a folder on the SSD. This should preferably be a new folder unless you're just updating an existing Production Folder on that SSD. This is so that the folder has just the files for your production, which also makes it easier to backup.

SCS doesn't pre-load audio files into memory - it just buffers sufficient data for 'immediate' playback when required.

Thanks Mike. With almost monthly productions and a large number of sound people I think the best approach is to put the newest productions on the SSD and then after the run to move them off and onto a standard disk.

And thanks re how SCS works.
