Editing in Audition whilst running SCS (Fix in 9.4.5)

Post by peterrice » Tue Sep 04, 2007 3:33 am

As I'm bulding cues I often want to change the .wav in some way. I open Audition, make the alteration and then try to save. Audition tells me the file is in use by another application and I must first close that to save. It can be very dull closing SCS evertime I want to make a .wav change is there anyway round this?

You need to get SCS to close the file, and the easiest way to do this is to click further down the cue list so the cue with the file you are editing is 'completed'. If you are in the Editor you will probably need to close the Editor, but at least you don't have to close the whole program.

That's what I thought...

I was going past the cue in the cuelist but not closing the editor. However closing the editor still doesn't seem to resolve the problem and the 'Status' reads as 'Completed' but I still get the 'File in use by another application' prompt in Audition. Any other ideas?

You're not using that same file in a later cue? I experimented with this here, using GoldWave to edit the file, and after clicking past the cue I could save the edited file with GoldWave, whereas when the cue was not 'Completed' I could not.

The cue IS completed.

Yeah I'm trying to save when the 'End' cue is selected in the cue list (so everything is 'Completed') and it's still an issue. The editor window is also closed.

Peter,

I've emailed you details of a test I'd like you to run to help me work out why the files are not being closed when the cues are 'Completed'.

Hi mike

The same problem occurs with Soundforge 8. The window that pops up says

'An error occurred while saving one or more files. The file could not be created'

This occurs when the editor is closed, and the cue is either on the cue that is being edited, or a later one. Once SCS is closed, the file can be edited and saved

Peter has emailed me the results of the test which has helped me track down the cause of files being left open. This will be fixed in the next release, but a pre-release is available for anyone who needs it now. (Registered users only.)

Files left open

Mike

Could this also be the cause of low virtual memory messages, where I didn't get these before upgrading to version 9.4.x? PC has 1GB ram and nothing else running (even unessential services disabled)

Cheers

Could be, Andy. I've emailed you details of a pre-release of 9.4.5 to try to see if this fixes the 'low memory' message.

The issue of some files being left open in SCS, even when the cue is 'completed', has been fixed in 9.4.5.
