New feature suggestion:
Allow the name of the production (xxx.scs) or "new" to be specified as a command line parameter which would override the loading of the last production when SCS starts up. That way shortcuts could be created pointing to certain productions or one that would open SCS with no production loaded.
What prompted this is that it takes quite some time for SCS to startup with a large production and I wanted to create a new one, but I had to wait for the large production to load before I could create the new one.

This should be available now, although I haven't tried it recently. This is effectively what happens if you double-click on a .scs file in Windows Explorer.Theatre III Sound wrote:Allow the name of the production (xxx.scs) ... to be specified as a command line parameter which would override the loading of the last production when SCS starts up.
You can also start SCS without opening the most recent cue file if you hold down Ctrl while you start scs9.exe.

Re: Allow production or "new' as a command line option
Bruce,
In addition to Mike's instructions on using CTRL to open up an empty program --
For opening up specific programs with a shortcut, create a shortcut on the .scs program file, not the SCS executable. Will that work for you?
Thanks. John

Re: Allow production or "new' as a command line option
The <CTRL> option still works. I was going to say it isn't documented in the help file, but then I found it at the bottom of the "How SCS Works" topic - perhaps there should be a separate topic on ways to start SCS under the introduction chapter of the help file.
Creating shortcuts pointing to particular .SCS files is fine - I hadn't thought of trying that.
Thanks,
Bruce

Re: Allow production or "new' as a command line option
The only issue, of course, is as you save new versions of your program file you will have to keep updating your shortcuts. But a command-line options probably wouldn't help that out anyway ... SCS would have to have version awareness in order to go to the most current version of a given production.
... or the File-Save function could have an option to automatically create a desktop shortcut for the new file. Mike, are you interested in doing something like that?
Thanks. John

Re: Allow production or "new' as a command line option
Could do, but it's a bit fiddly as ideally I should add a checkbox to the Windows standard "Save As" dialog. You may be aware, John, that I'm apply some Windows dialog changes in SCS 10 for opening audio files, but I haven't yet applied any changes to a "Save As" dialog. So it's feasible but it's more than just a simple change.jkowtko wrote:.. or the File-Save function could have an option to automatically create a desktop shortcut for the new file.
