Stored Configurations (in 10.1.0)

Post by john-tapas » Wed Jun 04, 2008 8:52 pm

Would the possibility of having stored profiles for sound devices be viable?

I use the software in three different situations each with a different sound card setup.
1/ Home PC connected to a soundblaster card - for creating shows.
2/ Laptop, and use the internal sound card - for rehearsals.
3/ Laptop with theatre sound card - for the show.

Each time the change requires a reset of the sound channel settings.
As this has been every night for the week prior to the run of the show it just started to grate on my frayed nerves!

Keep up the good work.

John

This is partially sorted in V10 and works! :D

The soundcard config can be stored on the individual computer instead of the scs file.
The SCS file just stores the device names, ie FOH, Bstage, Fback etc and when it is loaded into the target machine, the target machine has stored the s/card assignments eg FOH = PCIScard ch1+2, Bstage = USBScard Ch3+4, etc

I dont thing you can have different hardware setups on the same machine if I understand you correctly,
No doubt Mike will explain better when he sees your question

As Boswell has replied, in SCS 10 you will be able to save sound card assignments for a production on each computer to ease the transfer each way of your cue file. But currently there's no provision for having different assignment profiles on the same machine (as requested for situations 2 and 3). I presume situation 2 refers to rehearsals that are not taking place in the theatre with all the production sound equipment available, so how often would you be switching between situations 2 and 3?

Changing from 2 to 3 would probably only happen once, when we move from rehearsal to the theatre.
Since we only hire the theatre, we are there for the run and thats it.

Really its the 'home / other' swap that is the big issue and can happen daily during rehearsals (And runs for some Directors!).

The scheme you are proposing sounds fine for my needs.

Only small doubt is dependant upon where the setup files are stored.
I presume they are not in the show folder, in which case should be OK.

In SCS 10 you will be able to specify if the device types on the different computers are the same or different. If they are the same then the assignment information is held in the cue file, so gets transferred between computers when you transfer the cue file. If you say that the device types are different (which they are in your situation) then the assignment information is stored in the Windows Registry under 'current user'. Separate assignment information will be held for each production, so even if the information is stored in the registry you can use different assignments for different productions.
