DMX in / trigger (in 10.5.0)

Hello!
It would be nice to have DMX option for triggering cues. Timing with lightdesk would be easy after that, no more complicated changes if one person is doing both light and sound. I think Enttec open/pro dmx could be one way to convert dmx to SCS...?

Did you have a Search for DMX and look at
this thread or
this thread?

Yes I checked that. Would be more easy to operate if SCS could receive dmx for control and don't have to run so many programs same time. Enttec is cheaper

I've come across several lighting desks that have midi in & out so triggering from to a desk has not been a problem. For my last show I used an Entech open USB dongle. MIDI loopBe1 and DMXcontrol software all on the same PC.
I used SCS to generate the MIDI cues which were looped back via LoopBe1 to DMXcontrol. THe only problem I found was that DMXcontrol's MIDI inputs are not the easiest to use & set up but once I had it going it worked & was reliable.
See
http://www.dmxcontrol.de for free DMX lighting control software &
http://www.nerds.de/ for loopbe1 and other things.
Next requirement: a midi controlled video playback device for the 4 different streams I'm going to have to control remotely & simultaneously.

Yes many desks have midi in/out capability, but programming midi out with cues can be much harder or impossible in some desks. Dmx programming would be much more easier with for ie Compulite desks (you can not specify midi to cues, only to buttons). And could be same thing in some other desks also. Also other devices are dmx contolled so would be easier and more reliable to control with one system.
So it would be very nice to have dmx input with same kind of system which is included in Arkaos but not so complicated channel patch, own dmx to each cue triggering and for go-button etc.

Have you Mike planned to do dmx support in future for ie enttec dmx usb dongle?

I'd like to provide DMX suppport but need to find a generic solution rather than interface with a proprietary driver. Any links to suitable generic drivers or API's would be helpful.

I think there's no any general system. As far as I know, programs with dmx support uses couple of most popular systems (like in Arkaos or Chamsys)

Enttec is one example but is quite popular and cheap.
Enttec open dmx has only one port but it has also dmx input with male-male xlr adapter. Works fine with those mentioned programs

Thanks for the link, Kalle. I've downloaded info from that site and will see if this is something I can incorporate into SCS.

You can email me if you get something with that, can test something if wanted.

Thanks for the reminder, Kalle. I've been working on other changes and have overlooked DMX. I'll have another look at this.
Just to clarify your request, going back to your original posting in this topic I see that what you are wanting is a facility to allow cue control by DMX, ie DMX IN, not DMX OUT. Is that correct, ie you are not wanting a "DMX Send" cue type, but just "Cue Control by DMX messages"?

Yes only cue control with DMX. For ie with own dmx channels to go, stop, hot keys, arrow keys etc. Ideal situation would be pc with SCS running stand alone and controlling show with lighting desk. Usually there's much more light cues than sound, and easy to add sound cue "control cues" to lighting board or to existing light cues. So SCS only listening DMX input and acting when needed.
Using Enttec open dmx dongle in PC, that's also working as dmx in mode although there's no male xlr 5-pin connector, working with male adapter.

Mike any news on this?
Personally I would like to see Artnet

Thanks,

I was planning to get DMX going and a few months ago I purchased an Entec Open DMX USB. However, I couldn't work out from their documentation just how to get SCS to receive/send DMX, and how to format DMX messages. Other SCS 10 priorities have meant that I put this on hold, but it's probably time to revisit the interface.
