More keyboard controls (in 9.5.0)

Hi Mike,

We use SCS for our Pantomime rehearsals and then the performances in February.

I'm looking for enhanced keyboard shortcuts, such as pausing the current playing cue (in rehearsals, which is when I actively interact with SCS most and thus need these shortcuts, we only play one cue at a time) and re-cueing the current cue.

During the rehearsals, the choreographer will regularly stop mid-song, at which point I hit the escape button as the quickest way to stop the song. (I use the keyboard for most of my computer work). Unfortunately she often wishes to continue from where she left off, which means I would have needed to pause the song. It would be better to pause the song every time, then recue if she wants to start from the beginning.

My preference for rehearsals would be spacebar as pause/unpause (toggle), and enter as play (ie next cue). I realise most people (myself included) use the spacebar for next cue during shows, so maybe a 'rehearsal' mode which actives the extra settings. It is unlikely people would be pausing or re-cueing items during a live show. :-)

Thanks,

Peter.

Depends on the show.

But I second the request, especially but not only for rehearsals.
And as another request:
at least I'd like to have the possibility to restart the paused cue from another point.
"Could we have the music 15 seconds or 4 bars prior to the interruption?" is the director's request in that moment.
I don't have to hear it, a "jump - 15 seconds"-button/field would be "enough".

And the space bar as "pause/contunue" would be great!

Thanks Maik,

I was beginning to think I'd come up with a stupid suggestion...

No suggestion is stupid, Peter! Keyboard controls are requested quite often, so I'll scan thru these various requests and see what can be implemented in SCS 10.

Regarding jumping back 15 seconds, Maik, one feature that is available now is that if you do pause a cue and want to go back 15 or so seconds you can click on the progress slider and either drag it to the required position or use left and right arrow keys to move the slider. Arrow keys only work if the slider has 'focus', which means clicking on the slider. (There's no visual indication that the slider has focus.) What I could consider is adding to this feature the ability to jump in 5-second intervals if you hold down Control while using the arrow keys.

Ah, yes, thanks for that hint!
That helps a bit.

Sorry, I missmatched theatrical cues with SCS-Cues.
But what I actually meant, was a sort of "global" pause.

I.e. if there're running some (= more than one) sound-files, fades etc. in parallel, SCS-"Cues" and -"Sub-Cues", I want to hit the pause-button and all running SCS-Cues and Sub-Cues just "freeze" at their momentary position.
And this paused state of the whole cue-list should then be "scrollable" in a kind.

Do you feel, how I think?
;-)

Hi Mike,

Sorry, I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek sort of, but maybe it didn't come across too well.

I was maybe a bit surprised at the lack of responses to my suggestion; there's usually quite a bit of activity on this board such that someone responds.

Glad you're looking into it.

Hi Mike,

Just wondering if you're any nearer with this?

I've just read this post from Christmas 2006 with the following sentence:
So what's happening with SCS in 2007? SCS 10
Obviously we're almost at the end of 2007 and our show is in the new year, so just wondered if there's any update?

Cheers,

Peter

Peter,

As I mentioned in a posting in the General Forum, I had to change tack on the SCS 10 development due to problems with the Mac/Windows cross-platform development environment. I am currently working full-time on a Windows-only SCS 10 which will be available ealy next year. There should be a 'release candidate' available by early January. I am including the 'pause/resume' options as requested.

Sorry Mike,

No pages came up when I searched for "scs10" or "scs 10" so I presumed there hadn't been any update.

I've just found this post when searching for Mac (on the assumption there's less mac posts than windows!) which I presume is the post to which you are referring.

Have you disabled/edited the searching facility to block the term 'scs'? It seems several searches with scs in return null results.

Interesting. No I haven't disabled this. The search facility is 'out of the box' from phpBB.

Thanks for the info you sent me by PM, Peter. I've looked at the Forum Database and see that 'scs' is marked as a common word and so is excluded from searches. This 'common word' indicator is set by the phpBB software when a word is used in more than a certain percentage of posts.

... that percentage being:
Heavily used words are those who appear in the search_wordmatch table more than (4/10 * total_posts) times.
Peter.
