Recording Simple MIDI Events

Hello,

Just bought the program and I am loving it..

I have one small request. I am using a Roland VMC7200 Digital Mixing system. My only problem is when I use my large system (40 channels) I lose 50 percent of my scene memory. Which brings me down to only 50 scene memories from the original 100 scenes available on a 20 channel system. Apparently this has to do with some memory issues in the Roland programming architecture.

As you can see, I don't have too many options when it comes to preprograming scenes. Especially when I have to use my large system.

What I was hoping you might be able to do is to give SCS the capabilities to record fader movements, mute buttons and some effects changes within the MIDI CUE (SUB MIDI CUE) screens. and be able to play them back as you would a sound file. Possibly with the same/similiar editing features. I guess this would be considered a simple sequencer of some sort.

Any thoughts
Thanks again for the great software!

Good idea, but would need some careful planning. I presume you would want to 'start recording' and 'stop recording' followed by 'save'. How many individual MIDI events do you think you would be recording in one such sequence? This may influence whether the info is to be stored in a MIDI file or as MIDI events in an SCS sub-cue. (SCS 10 will support multiple MIDI events per sub-cue.)

Firstly, thanks for considering this option in SCS10. Now I will try to elaborate:

I find that there are situations where I only need to pull or add 2 or three faders during a scene whan actors/ess go off stage or during a quick costume change, then return back to the same scene. The same happens when a actor/ess tend to belt out the songs then speaks quietly through their lines (amature theatre..what can I say!. Pseudo fader riding). Also I am slowly migrating to a surround system. Having the ability to record midi events should give me the ability to save my joystick movements (when I have a sound move around the listening field). This should provide a constant listening enviroment throughout a run. Also I do have the odd requests to call up heavey reverb on one actor just for a few lines. It would be convient to be able to unmute one channel without having to program a whole scene within the console's memory.

I'am not sure how far you could take this. But if the need ever arises, it would be ideal to be able to have the computer store and save all the console's presets and not rely on the consoles scene recall as much.

The options would be endless at this point.

Doable???

Thanks for the response

I haven't read up on the VMC7200 but I would expect you can do that just by sending the appropriate Program Change or Note On/Off MIDI message to the VMC7200.

This kind of information is usually transmitted or received via MIDI SysEx messages, and it would be feasible to enhance SCS to receive, save and transmit such info. SCS would not attempt to interpret SysEx messages into a meaningful display, but you could use the cue or sub-cue description field to record the appropriate meaning.
