Akai MPD32 as a supported control surface

Hello,

I just stared using SCSI (v. 11.3.8 ) and love it! I have an Akai MPD32 running MIDI over USB that I have setup for transport control (play, stop, advance cue and previous cue) as well as it's trigger pads to go directly to a specific cue (up to 64). This arrangement is working great but it would be awesome to be able to use its faders and knobs for even more control such as the built in support for the Behringer BCF2000 and BCR2000. Is this possible either currently or in a future update? I would be happy to beta test if necessary.

Thanks for such a great product...

Josh

Thanks for your comments on SCS, Josh.

I've just had a quick look at the MPD32 on the Akai site. Are the 8 faders motorized? IE, can they be adjusted dynamically via MIDI? Same regarding the knobs if they are to be used for EQ control. SCS needs to both send and receive MIDI to the control surface.

Thanks for your quick reply Mike. No, the faders are not motorized. They are manual and send control change data. The knobs are not motorized either, however they are "endless" encoders and not just pots. They send control change data as well. The buttons (aside from the pads which can send note and program change) can be programmed to send control change or program change data.

In the simplest form of my request I would like to be able to control the main level and/or pan as well as the level and/or pan on the currently playing cue with the faders and/or knobs. To have the full functionality of the faders window such as with the Behringers would be a bonus! I'm kind of a MIDI newbie so please forgive my ingnorance on the subject, but I do learn fast!

Hi Mike,

I was just wondering if you had any additional thoughts on this. If adding the MPD32 with the same full functionality of the Behringers isn't possible I'd still like to be able to control the main level and/or pan as well as the level and/or pan on the currently playing cue with the faders and/or knobs. I tried experimenting with this and kind of got it to work with a specific numbered cue by sending program change data but can't figure out how to change the currently playing cue, nor could I figure out how to change the master level/pan. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I'd love to use my MPD32 to fully control my cues (or at least as much as possible).

Thanks!

Josh

Josh,

You should be able to change the master level from the MPD32. In SCS go to Production Properties / Devices / Cue Control Devices. Select Device Type 'MIDI In' and the relevant MIDI In Port. Then under Control Method select 'Custom'. Set the MIDI Channel as set on your MPD32. Under 'Cue Control Commands, scroll down to Master Fader. Then select 'Control Change' and the cc number you have set on the MPD32. As I don't have an MPD32 I can't test this, but I'm basing the MPD32 info on what I found in the MPD32 Operators Manual in the section entitled 'Editing knobs, faders and expression pedal'.

There's no MIDI support for changing the level of the currently playing cue. With a BCR/BCF2000 SCS does support changing the audio output device levels as well as the master level, but not individual cue levels.

Thanks Mike. I'll give it a try and let you know if it works.

Hi Mike,

I just wanted to let you know that using the custom option with control change data worked perfectly. Aside from the master level I was able to add a couple other commands such as pause/resume and go to top as well. My pads still work for going to specific cues using Note on commands too so I'm pretty happy so far. I was wondering if you plan on adding support for any further SCS commands via this option...

Thanks so much. I can't express how much SCS has changed my professional life! :D
