Pause on specified video frame

Post by Willarki » Thu Jun 20, 2013 9:03 am

Doing a show at the moment with a number of videos which need to play through and then pause at the end, thus leaving an image on screen. Current approach is to have a sub cue to pause the video close to the end. But it doesn't seem to always pause at exactly the same place, sometines playing the file completely, and other times pausing a few seconds early. Another approach I've tried is to have an image file of the last frame and a subcue to display this image at the conclusion of the video. But the screen goes to black between cues and looks fairly ugly.

So what I would like to see is the ability to pause at a specific frame, in addition to the time based pause. Able to specify a frame number or "Last" to pause at, and then also be able to smoothly fade to black from that frame>and be able to have.

can you capture the last frame of the video as a jpg image file and have it load 0 secs after the end of the video, then you can easily keep it up there and fade it etc.

Already tried that. Goes to black in between. Too much of the video issues are related to so-called "Standards". What works on one PC might not necessarily work on another due to codecs etc. I'm pretty sure that Mike makes mention of this in the help file.

I may soon be able to provide the facility to pause the image at the end of a video file.

You may have set your still image cue to start 0.0 seconds after the end of the video cue. To eliminate the black flash you could try setting the still image to autostart 0.0 seconds BEFORE the end of the previous video cue. You will have to make the still image cue a normal cue rather than a sub-cue as the relative start options for sub-cues do not include before-end timings.

Actually tried every permutation of before/after, cue/subcue, 0.0, 0.5. Director wasn't concerned but it is offensive to me.

Now I close my eyes each time I run those cues and everything is perfect when I look back to the stage!!! Show now in production so no more changes until after bump-out.

Here's a solution that will save you having to close your eyes.

Instead of having a separate still-image cue, set up an SFR cue to PAUSE the video, and set this cue to auto-start 0.1 second before the end of the video cue. Then have another SFR cue to STOP the video cue for when you do want to kill it. With an auto-start time like 0.1 second before the end of a video, I suggest you do NOT use WMV files as the reported duration of those files is only approximate. I've just run a test using an AVI file and that worked well.

Hallo at all,

I use this construction in one of my shows with an WMV and this works fine.
