Random Access vs. "Go Next"

Post by Soundbloke » Tue Apr 24, 2012 3:45 am

I would like to be able to set a cue to "Standby" so it is ready to "GO" even although it is already set-up as a hotkey cue.

A scenario would be where I am doing Youth events, quite interactive. I have a bunch of SFX and stings on hotkeys that I can fire off spontaneously depending on content, but also might want to get something ready to trigger without having to look for it on the keyboard. I'm already trying to follow a bunch of lairy presenters with shoddy mic technique round the room!

My follow-up thoughts to this are as follows:
[*]I suppose I could make 2 cues for each sound, but would rather not have to do this as I am often doing stuff on the fly, and it could become a bit messy.
[*]I see on Beta 11 there are GoToQs which would simplify that a bit. - Have I missed something, can I do that on 10?

I can't see that it would cause any problems to manually click to make ready a hotkey cue (or cursor up/down to it), In fact I can't see why you wouldn't want to be able to select it as a next, the cue would still be skipped in the cue list in 'normal' linear operation, notwithstanding that you would be moving to another place in your show if you did manually select it... but that's the point.

Yes, you can do this in SCS 10, but in SCS 10 'GoTo' cues are implemented using a Note cue. Click here for details.

Generally what you are asking for is similar to the Non-Linear Run Mode described under Production Properties. I get the impression that there is nothing predictably 'linear' about the production, so your suggestion of being able to click on or navigate to a hot key cue does seem a reasonable request provided you have selected 'non linear run mode'.

Anyone else with some thoughts on this?

Ah ha! Non linear run mode! That does help with what I was trying to do! So I can preselect a hotkey cue! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I thought there might be a way to do it, but I kept looking under "preferences"...
...Should have read the Manual  I will go and have a read, and a play!

Thanks also for pointing out how to GoTo!- I had actually read that bit, but then forgot about it :?
