Audio/MIDI Device Configuration

Hi Mike . . . . I must have too much time on my hands as I have another suggestion/request. Sorry if this is a bit long winded.
I prepare my SCS productions on my studio desktop computer which has an M-Audio Delta 1010LT audio interface. I then transfer the SCS file and any relevant audio/image/video files to two laptops (one is for back up) for performances. The first laptop is running XP and has an Edirol UA101 interface and the other is running VISTA with another Edirol UA101. I think this is probably one of the relevant issues here - even though the same make/model of interface is being used, the drivers for XP and VISTA display the physical device/outputs differently and each UA-101 is automatically allocated individual IDs.
The first time I open the transferred SCS file on each of the laptops I currently have to configure the mapping of physical devices/outputs and MIDI playback devices.
If I then make some changes on my studio desktop computer, or indeed create a new SCS file, I have to again go through the whole procedure on both laptops to configure the audio/MIDI device.
Now, the main reason for having two laptops and two interfaces is that they can be ‘mixed and matched’ in case of a failure of any one of them. So let’s suppose that I want to swap one of the laptops for the other. Assuming that the second laptop is already booted up, it’s very quick to repatch the USB connector and open the appropriate SCS file. The XP machine is fine with this but the VISTA machine is not and the audio/MIDI set up has to be re-configured as before.
As I see it there are two issues here . . .
1) Different interfaces are being used (ie Delta 1010LT and UA-101),
Desktop - XP
Image,
Laptop - XP

2) VISTA (displays the configuration in a different way).
Laptop - VISTA

So I was wondering if there was any way that the interface, and configuration of it, could be ‘remembered’ by SCS? For instance, could there be an additional heading, say ‘Audio/MIDI Mapping Options’, and check box under Production Properties/Production Options which says something to the effect of ‘Remember this configuration’? Then when a revised or new file is opened for the first time, and the interface or operating platform has changed, the program looks for a previously saved configuration that matches that of the newly introduced one.
Sounds simple doesn’t it? . . . . . .
The options (under ‘Production Properties’) of “Other SCS computers have the SAME physical device types” and “Other SCS computers have the DIFFERENT physical device types” don’t seem to account for this. Maybe I’m using them incorrectly?
Crikey, I’ve just re-read this . . . hope it makes sense?

This is were your problem lies. You should have all 3 computers set to “Other SCS computers have the DIFFERENT physical device types”. By doing so, your device selections will be saved in the registry of each computer, so once you have selected the required devices for a production, they will be remembered on that computer.

Something to note is that the settings are stored under the 'production id', which is a unique id generated whenever a new production is created, exported, or 'saved as'. The production id is written to the cue file using the <PRODID> tag, so the same production id will be used on all 3 computers. But when you create a new production (by 'New', 'Export' or 'Save As') then that new production will have a new production id so will need you to nominate the devices the first time you open the file on a different computer.

Doh! I should have known that you'd got this covered, Mike. I have been misunderstanding the use of the physical device types check buttons. Thanks also for the additional info re the 'production id'. Version 10.6.1 has been running well for me.
Cheers . . . Martin
