[In 11.5.1] A 'Backup to Pen Drive' button
A 'Backup Show, Files, Colour Scheme' to a pen drive 'button'?
I realise this can be done via the 'collect show files' dialogue and Windows explorer, but a 1 click backup method would be great.

A quick 'follow up' on this topic
Two thoughts:
Using the 'collect production files' then copy/paste folders in Windows explorer method is a) horribly easy to get wrong, especially under pressure and b) depending on the sheer weight of the media files, potentially quite time consuming. (a recent show I designed came in at 2.3 Gb and took the best part of ten mins to transfer to a pen drive).
A 'backup to removable drive button' could, presumably, involve a dialogue which offers 'backup and over-write all', 'backup SCS show files only (.scs, .scsdb, .scsc), 'backup incrementally' or 'backup new or changed files' etc etc.
I would hate to see Mike's face as he reads this! ....

Re: A 'Backup to Pen Drive' button
I am for a system/button/dialogue box that lets you back up the ENTIRE show (sound files, images, videos, scs file) to a specific folder of your choice, be it pen drive or SD card or hard disk or NAS, whatever. I didn't know it didn't do this when I first used this feature and i was scrambling
It should update or append the new files in folders.

Re: A 'Backup to Pen Drive' button
Just a thought - instead of making a backup to a flash drive/USB HDD I have a Drop Box account for the SCS Computers (primary and backup) and save the show files/media there. Since Drop Box saves everything locally and pushes it to the other machine there is an exact duplicate of everything I do including the last second changes.

Re: A quick 'follow up' on this topic
To provide a feature for 'backup to removable drive' it seems to me that this could use the Collect Production Files procedure with the only exception (apart from some terminology) being that SCS would not automatically switch the last-used-file to the backed-up (collected) cue file, but would continue to use the currently-open cue file.dougmiller wrote:Two thoughts:

Such a new feature would not require much work. Any comments?
Re: A 'Backup to Pen Drive' button
How do I proceed:
I "Collect production files" in my design computer to prepare the final package to be copied to the theater computer.
I collect the files into a folder of the design computer and continue the tests with the project in this collected folder.
The design computer has its own backup procedure (Second Copy).
When the design phase is finished I copy the collected folder to a pendrive to move the show to the theater computer (that has its own backup procedure too).
This means that for me, switch to the project in the collected folder is the right way.
May be you could add a check box (saved in SCS preferences) to set if SCS must switch to the new folder or not.
Regards,
Lluís

Thanks, Lluís. Seems like an even simpler solution.Buyaicia wrote:May be you could add a check box (saved in SCS preferences) to set if SCS must switch to the new folder or not.

Re: A 'Backup to Pen Drive' button
'Collect production files' has been enhanced in 11.5.1 to support creating a backup to an external drive. See Collect Production Files for more info.
