Support for Midi Controller
Support for Midi Controller
Such as FrontierDesign Tranzport, Beringer BCF2000 ... so that we coule change the fader level during show to suit the performance.

Could you give me more info on the requirements? EG, are you wanting to send a sequence of MIDI messages over a nominated period of time to change a fader level?
Also, KMK, I'm uncertain what you mean by changing a fader level 'to suit a performance'. This is certainly a requirement for a live mix, but I don't understand how this relates to what SCS will control.

Re: Support for Midi Controller
I just can speak for my requirements, not for kmk's, so:
the BCF2000 is totally programmable and sends for example Control Change 81, value 0 to 127, on MIDI-channel 1 on movement of it's fader 1 (of 8 faders) on it's default preset.
So I'd like to use this fader as replacement of the mouse-to-fader-click and moving the mouse on the cue's fader in SCS.
Two problems come to mind:
- the fader/control change-adress should be assignable on a "per cue"-basis.
Perhaps it would be useful to add an additional info on the cue panel "This cue is (momentarily) controlled by Fader 1" -> we need a "Info/Name"-tag on the "MIDI Device"-section in the Editor; here I would name the info "F1".
- I have no clue, what the BCF expects on it's "return path" to get the value of the SCS's cue's level. But I think, I can check this tonite by inserting a "MIDI sniffer" to the USB-bus.
On the DM1000/DM2000, I'm having problems to get the "return path" to work, so there's no news on this.

I don't understan the term "nominated period".are you wanting to send a sequence of MIDI messages over a nominated period of time to change a fader level?

Re: Support for Midi Controller
I'm still trying to get a handle on the requirement, so tell me if I'm on the right track
When you are designing your cues and establishing levels, for a particular cue do you want to manually adjust a fader on the BCF2000 and have SCS record the MIDI Control Change messages in real time, so that in production SCS can send those same MIDI messages to reproduce the fader movement? So the 'Level Change' cue in SCS would not adjust SCS levels but would send MIDI control change messages to the BCF2000.
Is that the kind of feature you are requesting?

Record the whole movement, like "drawing" a volume in ProTools?Mike Daniell wrote:When you are designing your cues and establishing levels, for a particular cue do you want to manually adjust a fader on the BCF2000 and have SCS record the MIDI Control Change messages in real time
Really good idea!
I didn't think about getting ALL the marbles!

Yes!Mike Daniell wrote:so that in production SCS can send those same MIDI messages to reproduce the fader movement?
But at the moment, it would be great, if I had the chance to get an alternative for using the mouse to change levels in production.
I think, I should write a scenario and email it directly to you.

Not "but", "and"!
I'd like to have both, if I may!

The BCF should adjust the SCS level in real time.
And SCS should send it's level back to the BCF.
But more in the scenario.
I hope to get it written within a few days.

Re: Support for Midi Controller
Any progress on this? I am very new to SCS and would love to get my Tascam US-428 to run it. My thoughts are that during the programming stages, the control surface would reflect the levels in SCS. If there was a cue in whice my center speaker was to hot, I could grab my fader on the US-428 and bring it down, this would correct the problem and then I could update that level in SCS. I have operators that are not very computer literate, so giving them a fader to grab would help

Re: Support for Midi Controller
No progress yet, but thanks for the reminder! Maybe early 2011 after I've completed a couple of other mods.
Re: Support for Midi Controller
Would also alow the designer to have some sort of control from within the house during those last tech runs. Much easier than "up a bit, bit more, less, save that, no up some more" etc

Re: Support for Midi Controller
I, too. would like support for MIDI controllers, such as CM Labs MotorMix series of controllers.
I use a CM Labs MotorMix to control levels for SoundMan-Server (subs, inputs, outputs), mutes and solos in a live setting to adjust for different audience densities.
Also, when setting levels in the venue during programming, it's easier to grab a fader, adjust the level, and then grab the value as sent to SM-Server
Manual is here:

developers manual
http://www.cmlabs.net/MotorMix%20V%201. ... 20pkg3.pdf
Rest of the documentation on CM Labs site is here:
http://www.cmlabs.net/motormix.html
I don't work for CM Labs.
I do testing for Richmond Sound Design and ShowMan Systems, the developers of SoundMan-Server.
I also do testing for SCS regarding the integration of SoundMan-Server with SCS 11.
