dmx master fader controlled by cue

Post by Buyaicia » Tue Oct 22, 2019 7:15 pm

Hi,
IMO, it could be very helpful to have the possibility to change/fade the dmx master fader to be able to change the general light level without changing the design using a cue (SFR, Level change or a new one).
I must to create some copies of the same light cue to have the same design but darker.

Lluís

I'm not promising anything yet, but maybe a Lighting Level Change Cue that can be applied against the fixtures in a previously-played Lighting Cue, even though that earlier cue is technically completed at the time of playing the Level Change. This would enable you to lower or raise the fadeable channels in that cue's fixtures without affecting the overall DMX Master level. You might also have some fixtures live that are not included in that cue, and those fixtures would not (or need not) be affected by the Lighting Level Change.

My english will not be enough to explain this clearly but I try.

Could be a way, but, in my experience with the last complex show, I needed to lit the same scene with three different ways.
1.- the light cue as it
2.- the scene starts with the light cue as it but I need to fade down a half and after that I need to fade up again.
3.- I need to start the light cue at one third

To play this show I created the full light cue, then copied it twice and lowered all fade channels to the right value. This means I have three cues for the same scene layout, but if in rehearsals I need to adjust something (eliminate or add fixtures), I need to do it three times.

It I should design this show to be played with a desk, I should create only one scene and while playing I could move the cue fader to a new value.

This is why I propose to be able to control de dmx master fader by a cue. This allows me to set the master level (I say 50%) while crossfading between to lighting cues to be able to set the cue at 50%.

I think it could be more helpful, imo, to have a "master level" for each cue (like volume level for and audio cue) and this level could be set by a set level cue or sfr cue.

All this comments are a starting way. May be somebody can do more proposals.

Lluís

This sounds something like a sub-master. Assign a DMX cue state to a sub-master -perhaps a callable cue would work. Create a series of "sub-master SFR" cues referencing the callable cue and applying a sub-master % level value to each channel in the callable cue to arrive at the required output level, and a fade time for the change (as per current SFR "override fade time" feature). SCS would need to know the current levels of the channels referenced in the callable cue- but it must have that info somewhere as it would be continuously sending it to the lights anyway,
