Yamaha OSC Control for Rivage/DM7

Post by tuxmos » Sun Sep 24, 2023 7:17 am

Hi Mike
Would it be possible for you to create an OSC library for Yamaha OSC (Rivage, DM7 series), like you have already set up for the Behringer X32?
I'm currently using free format. However, it would be more practical and easier for less experienced colleagues not to have to know all the commands and then enter them in the correct format.
Here is the link to the Yamaha documentation: https://download.yamaha.com/files/tcm:39-1407565

Thank you for your efforts and greetings from Germany

I will look into this, but is MIDI control also an option? That would be easier to implement as the relevant commands could be added to our 'Control Send Remote Device' file. There are plans to add network (eg OSC) support to this file, but currently such changes require code changes in SCS.

Pretty much any console can handle midi control commands, but most of them, including Yamaha, have to first assign the commands to the console and are not as comprehensive as with OSC. I've been using midi control so far, but only to a limited extent. (only for the first 24 channels, fader set and mute, as well as the DCA's). In the SCS I always have to remember the control assignments, etc. This is time-consuming and sometimes overwhelms my colleagues who don't want to deal with the matter as much. I had now discovered network control for Behringer x32 in SCS Control Remote Device and hoped that this could also be implemented for Yamaha via OSC.
This means you can easily create a control cue in the editor and you can see straight away what you are doing.
By the way, I have now switched from Arkaos to Millumin as a video player and, after initially using DMX, I now control it with OSC, as Millumin also has many control commands preset by default and I only have to worry about the SCS side of the programming.
A library could certainly be put together, or there is even a documentation, like for the Yamaha consoles. I have to look for it.

Unfortunately, SCS quickly reaches its limits with larger video projects or the resource limits of the PC. The loading time alone when starting SCS when several video files are integrated into the project is tiring.
It is perfect for all my other projects with audio and little video playback as well as remote control of the mixer, video matrix, camera and projector control.
My colleagues and I use SCS on five stages in our theater and our assistant directors have already trained well in rehearsals and use SCS independently, so I don't always have to be there at every rehearsal.

Sorry for all the text. I had to get rid of that.

Thank you for your effort
