Using NDI as a video streaming source

Post by Eclipse » Thu Oct 15, 2020 2:21 am

Hi all,
I know that SCS already has a proprietary streaming server, but it seems the industry is coalescing into a common standard with Network Device Interface (NDI). I use SCS along with both live projectors and lighting/media visualisers like Capture that are now NDI compliant.
I would like to see Show Cue output streaming video across the network so that both projectors and visualisers can see these streams without additional support. What are the possibilities of this?

Regards,
Rob

I have been looking into supporting NDI but need to do more work on this.

Hi Mike,
Well from what I can deduce, the protocol/API is freely available at no cost.
They make their money off the hardware.
The main advantage of NDI over others like CITP is they use a non-lossy streaming codec, instead of whole frames.

Hi Mike,
I am just bumping this request as it's been a while and I wondered if there was any progress on the NDI front.
It's just that I have now purchased Capture 2021 and getting video into a visualiser is now becoming pressing.

Many thanks,
Rob

I'll try to get to that shortly. There was apparently a problem with NDI streaming in earlier versions of the video playback library used by SCS, which hopefully was why I couldn't get it to work!

Just want to say I would really like to see native NDI support in SCS! The video input/output possibility's would be endless!

ps: you can already use one ndi input with the newtek webcam app.

Hi,

I'm wondering if there has been any further development progress to support NDI natively in SCS? ( I do not see much action on this thread in 2022 - yet NDI functionality and popularity is very much on the rise still).

NDI tools 5.5.1.0 just came out and we're using it as a main backbone across our facility to push video signals out.
This is something we would very much welcome soon as we're consolidating our systems around NDI to scale up.

Any insights on this would be very much welcomed.

Regards,

Chris

Not yet - it's still on my 'to do list'. I have, however, just downloaded the NDI 5 SDK.
