Editor window won't open

Post by chrisoleary » Mon Sep 18, 2017 1:22 pm

Hi,

Running SCS 11.4 on a Windows 10 machine.
I am attempting to open the editor to edit the cues in a show that has already been set up.
The windows hourglass appears and it looks as though the editor can't open. I have waited for up to 30 minutes for it to open, then additional time if I attempt to view sub-cues or audio/video cues. The computer's processor sits at around 25% utilised, but the disk value registers as 100% the entire time.

What I have found is that if I saveAs the file to a new name then the editor pops open straight away and I have no problems editing the cues.
As soon as the cue file has been used in a show or the computer is rebooted, the editor has the same issue. It seems as though it is having trouble reading it's own save file.

I cannot upgrade at the moment as the show is live and don't want to risk losing everything while we are in the middle of a run (as has happened previously).
Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?

Thanks
Chris

As a guess, pending Mike's far more informed reply, do the devices in the show file match the Windows default activated when you reboot? SCS may be looking for something it can't find. (Alternatively that may be a red herring!)

chrisoleary,

I had a similar problem some time ago.
If you have two or more screens connected to the computer, sometimes SCS shows a message box in a secondary display and waits you to click for an answer.
A fast way to fix this is disconnect all displays/projectors and run SCS, this forces all windows to be shown in the first display.

Hope this helps,
Lluís

Thanks for your responses guys.
Unfortunately it's not the devices as the show runs successfully, so all devices are present - just won't open the editor.
I am running the screen and a projector for the show. I can see both screens from my vantage point and there is nothing coming up on the second screen. There are only the two window showing (the main SCS window and the editor attempting to open). For the duration of the wait Windows reports the SCS software as Not Responding.

As soon as I re-save the file as a new file name it opens the editor on the new file straight away.

Sometimes this sort of thing can arise from being too quick.

After starting or rebooting the PC/laptop, do you wait for Windows to load completely, i.e. all disk activity has stopped, before launching SCS ? When launching SCS do you wait for it to load completely before opening the editor ?

Definitely waiting for both to finish "loading".

Chris, I've emailed you details of a tracing version to run.
