[Fix 11.2.5] Pins are not connected error in 11.2.4

Post by Stuart Barry » Tue Oct 29, 2013 9:42 pm

Mike,

When trying to play a wmv file with SCS 11.2.4 I am getting the error "The operation cannot be performed because the pins are not connected". I am in design mode and do not have a second monitor/projector connected so would expect that the video to display in the preview box as usual. I tried replacing this with an mpg from an old show that used to display OK in earlier versions of SCS but the same thing happens. So at the moment I can't show any videos in this current version.

I am running SCS in Windows 7 32 bit. The dump file is on its way to you.

Best wishes

Stuart

Stuart,

I found this article on the Microsoft Support site. The work-around they suggest is to convert the file to AVI. I'm not convinced this will fix your problem as you've already tried a different format (MPG), but it may be worth a go.

If you don't have software to convert the file to AVI, I recommend NCH Prism Video Converter. Alternatively, first of all try replacing your WMV file with any AVI file to see if that plays OK.

If you get the same error with all video formats then I'll need to reinstate one of the other video playback libraries used in SCS 10. Which video playback library did you use in SCS 10?

Mike,

I tried converting the video to avi using the NCH Prism Video File Converter but got the same error as with wmv and mpg.

Under the Options/Video Driver Settings, the Video Playback Driver is set to xvideo with no other option available in the drop down list and the Video Renderer is Default Renderer (VMR-9 Windowless). I no longer have SCS 10 installed on my machine but seem to recall it was xvideo too. And I am fairly certain that I have played an SCS cue file containing some of the same videos that now don't work with an earlier version of 11 so I think the problem has only manifested itself sometime during the last couple of versions.

This appears to have been a very isolated error. The solution was to switch the video playback library from xVideo to DirectShow. DirectShow has therefore been added as an alternative video playback library in SCS 11.2.5. However, xVideo is by far the preferred library as the features implemented for DirectShow do not include video fades or monitor displays, and the audio can only be played through the default Windows sound device.

For anyone else who may encounter this problem, I eventually found the cause and was able to fix it. Previously, in an attempt to fix an earlier SCS video problem, I had downloaded the K-Lite codec pack which unbeknown to me included an Xvid codec. Once I uninstalled this Xvid codec, SCS worked correctly using its default Playback Library of xVideo.
