Audio Glitch when playing multiple linked files

Post by Dave T » Thu Nov 20, 2014 4:58 am

Im running SCS 11.3.5.2 on an XP pro machine with an M audio 1010 soundcard, running the latest (asio) drivers available.

Im trying to play back multi-part tracks, something i have done may times before. The audio files for each que are all arranged as sub ques and are 'linked' .
When the que is activated, the first second or so of all the files is played, but then it jumps back to the begining of the file(s) and starts playing again from zero.
So for example on the 'click track channel' we get '1 2, 1 2 3 4, click click click....' as opased to '1 2 3 4, click click click....'

Now im no stranger to resolving audio glitches with SCS, but this one has me stumped:-
If i play the files indervidually from the editor, they all play ok with the exeption of the file at subque possition 1 - which glitches as mentioned above.
If i move the 'click' file to subque position 2 and play it, it plays just fine, but the 'guitar' file, which has just enherited possition one, now glitches.
It does not matter which file i put in subque possition 1, it always glitches, and it does not matter which que im in. Its always sub que position one.

Now, as sub que 1 is glitching when the entire que is triggered, every single audio file also glitched because they are all linked - at least the re-sync is working
The glitch only ever happens at the begining of the ques, and once it has glitched the the rest of the que plays out as it should.

Iv tried everything i can think of, including changing from asio to direct sound (and back), reinstalling drivers, running a diffrent machine (hardware identical) and running the que file on an older vertion of SCS (11.2.3)
Iv even tryed re encodeing the .wav files, but all that and more has made no diffrence at all

Any ideas?
(dump file attached, with extention changed to .txt so i could up load it.)

UNDATE - iv fixed it, kind off. :D

In the audio driver setting page within SCS, i had 500ms in the 'Lynk Syc Point' box. I have always used this setting in the past for multi-tracking without problems, and infact it fixed problems with tracks drifting out of time in earlyer versions of SCS (pre v9).

So in short, i cleared the box, and low and behold, no glitching using either ASIO or direct sound. :D

Maybe Mike would like to shed some light on to why this should be the case?

I'll have to run some tests on this, but 500ms seems a bit long. In the documentation I suggest using 20ms. When you have the Link Sync Point set and you have linked audio files, SCS plays the linked files until the specified Link Sync Point time is reached in the first file, and then resets all the linked files to the start position and continues playing from there. This is just to work around a problem that sometimes occurs in the underlying software where the files may play slightly out of sync.

However, the playing of the files prior to reaching the sync point should be silent. As I say, I'll run some tests on this and get back to you.
