Cinema evening with ripped dvd

Post by Laserlighting » Wed Jan 18, 2023 9:57 am

Hi, I am a long time user of SCS but could do with some pointers with running a village cinema show from scs. So, trailers countdown, 1 st half, intermission, 2 half, audience leave. All fine apart from running the film in a high enough resolution through scs. Using a i7 laptop with a hdmi secondary out. Is ripping the dvd to mp4 and calling from scs the best way. Video not great. Thanks for any thoughts.

Hello,
Not really an SCS issue, however thought I would offer a couple of observations.
You can't really improve on the quality / resolution of the source DVD. If it's just a normal DVD (not Blu-ray) it will be standard definition (480p or 576p).
Also the resolution of the device you are using to display the image comes into play - projector, LED screen, etc.
Projectors will generally be fixed at some resolution - XGA, WXGA, WUXGA etc. LED screens (HD,4K) however may utilize some upscaling software.
I have used SCS to run high definition (1920x1080) videos without any problems, bearing in mind that, even though my video is HD, my projector is the limiting factor with a 1280x800 resolution.

Thanks for this, sometime a second pair of eyes….. going to look at ripping resolution and upscaling. Projector is HD with a 4.5m screen . Thanks

Ok! So ripped dvd to mp4 with MacX using the highest quality and when playing direct from file , all ok. When from SCS the playback is pixelated. I know I’m missing something. Any thoughts appreciated.

May not be help but...
You did not indicate if you were able to send to the projector without going through SCS and I am not too familiar with MacOS, but in windows the resolution can be changed via display properties, so I’d make sure the secondary monitor has the correct resolution set from within the MacOS... You likely already looked at this.
