How to control faders on an A&H Qu-24

Post by djvomght » Sat Dec 21, 2019 1:19 am

Hi folks,

a friend of mine does the audio for an amateur theatre. They use up to 18 wireless mics and he watched me moving faders on my M7CL with SCS via MIDI Ctrl Msgs. He wanted to do the same, but unfortunately he purchased an A&H Qu-24, which only supports NPRN messages for controlling faders etc. These messages can be emulated by sending four Ctrl messages, but entering four messages for a single fader move is not fun. So I did some research and here is my solution:
Download and install Springbeats Free Virtual MIDI Cable and MIDI Translator Classic.
Route the MIDI output from SCS to one of the virtual MIDI cables and the other end of the cable to MIDI Translator Classic. MIDI Out from the translator goes to the Qu. Load the file from the attached zip into MIDI Translator. It translates incoming Ctrl Msgs on MIDI channel 1 into NPRN msgs on the same channel. Use CTRL 1...24 for channels 1...24 and CTRL 25...27 for ST1...3 on the mixer.
You can use and modify this preset for free, this is my Xmas gift for all SCS users out there :-)

Have fun
Jörg
