Triggering from user defined keys

Post by billfuss » Sat Feb 18, 2017 2:36 am

Hi all.
I'm new to the forums but I've been using scs for about 6 years now. Sorry if this question has been asked already, I did a search and didn't get any results.
What I'm looking to do is have a Yamaha QL5 user defined key be able to fire scs cues on my primary and backup computers at the same time. I'm assuming this would be done with a midi command of some sort. What kind of hardware would I need to connect my QL5 to both computers at the same time? Would there be any sort of extra software I would need to connect my console to 2 computers at the same time?
Thanks for any input guys (and girls).
Bill.

Bill,

you will have to buy a midi thru box like MIDI Solutions Quadra Thru V2 and feed the QL5 midi out into it.
Then you need on each SCS machine a midi input (usb midi interfaces are available at low pice-(one cable solution like usb to midi in/out)).
Connect one output of the thru box to the main midi in and one to the backup midi in. You can set for example one user defined key as a Note On Value 0 which will trigger the "GO" key in SCS (see Production Properties->Cue Control Devices-MIDI -> Midi Note On Messages). You manually have to sync both machines on the same cue and could then trigger with your user defined key both scs instances in parallel.
No additional software needed.

Christian

Thank you Christian. This is exactly the information I was looking for. Once I get the components and set it all up I'll post my results.
Bill.
