using a software mixer as a re route

Post by beddas15 » Sun Dec 17, 2017 9:05 pm

hi
I am wondering if anyone has found a way of using a third party software mixer with scs? thinking from a live point as a easy way to balance up
all the tracks in a cue list, many thanks in advance

Could you explain what you mean by 'balance up all tracks in a cue list'? If you mean normalizing levels then there are some new features coming in SCS 11.7 which will provide this. In particular, you will be able to apply 'peak normalization' to all tracks in a playlist cue. Work on that enhancement has been completed, and another enhancement I will work on shortly is to provide a new option in Bulk Edit that will provide 'peak normalization' across selected audio file cues. This Bulk Edit feature would mainly be of use in cue lists with multiple music tracks - not so much for sound effects, etc.

thanks mike,
the new features sound cool, look forward to that, I think what I am trying to say is, is it possible to re route scs so you can have individual sends out of
scs to a software mixer, so you have faders for each of the sends you have coming out of scs, a sort of pre mixing before you send the main outputs
to your foh desk, hope that makes some sense or is it maybe a future option within scs its self? that would be a great feature to have in the future,
thanks for your in put as always mike

Perhaps the Faders Window provides the functionality you want. Although this Help page describes the use of the Faders Window with Live Inputs, it also handles just the Audio Output devices. If you are not using Live Inputs then the EQ controls and the Input Gain controls will be omitted. The Help also describes how to use this with an external 'control surface', but that is optional.

You can also use a virtual audio device to pipe the output of SCS into the input of another application.

I'm using http://jackaudio.org/ to send the audio out of SCS and into Ableton where I'm mixing it with other live inputs. I found this method works better for me than using Soundman in SCS for live inputs.

I'm also using https://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html as a virtual MIDI device in the same way, so I can send MIDI control cues out from SCS into Ableton to turn channels on/off, control VST parameters, etc.

I've been using Software Audio Console for 9 years now for all my live theater shows. I can program scenes that change any channel parameter as well as timed fades. It's a bit difficult to find now but if you do a lot of theater it's very good. I simply have SCS on a laptop going analog into two preamp channels. It works a treat.
Here is the forum. You can search that and ask questions about it.

Peak Normalisation sounds really good - especially for house/interval music where the dynamic range of some music tracks means I have to keep running back to the box to reduce the level in loud parts then go back when it goes quiet again.

It sounds like it also mean like in my current production where a CD is played as background music to the play - I've had to put it through Adobe Audition to put a hard limiter on it for exactly the same reasons.
