running videofile in a mkv container

Post by Eduard » Tue Oct 18, 2016 1:58 am

Can I run a videofile in a MKV container? Since I do a lot of projection from different files and codec,i was very happy to stumble into SCS, because this is the first program that runs a bit like Qlab for the Mac. However I work on a windows machine and was hoping that SCS was able to show MKV (ripped BluRay's) My windows computer does, so the codec is working, but untill now SCS won't. Any Idea?

best regards,
Eduard

I've just tried playing a text MKV file using the TVG demo program (SCS uses TVG for video playback) and TVG couldn't open the file, suggesting I may need a special CODEC. I'll look into this later. Do you have a way to convert the MKV file(s) to a more common format, such as MP4, AVI or WMV?

Hi Mike,

Yes I'am able to convert these files, but what mostly happens is that these files are delivered just moments before a screening and so have no chance to make a good conversion fast. So I have to rely on cheap mediaplayers or vlc... with risc of osd trouble etc. But in the meanwhile I'm getting more and more happy with SCS, just bought the it this week :-)

thank you for your work,

regards,
Eduard
