performance vs cue-to-cue

Post by jameslo » Sat May 29, 2010 12:32 am

Does anyone have a trick for maintaining two versions of a show, one for performance and one for cue-to-cue? My current show has a lot of long fades and long sub-cue relative start times, and so I have to maintain a copy with shorter times so I can step through cues quickly, but when I adjust something in one I have to remember to make the same adjustment in the other. I tried inserting alternate short versions of certain cues with the idea of disabling them but the inter-cue referential integrity check forces me to introduce more complexity than it's worth.

The main difficulty here is the "long sub-cue relative start times" - I can't think of an easy way to break into a long delayed start, apart from clicking the Play button in the sub-cue's transport controls.

However, there's a solution you might like to consider for the long fades, assuming you are referring to fade-out times. Set up a hotkey for "fade out all playing cues", with a fade time override suitable for what you'd want during cue-to-cue (eg 1 second), or even "stop all playing cues" if you don't mind an abrupt end to the cue during cue-to-cue. Then, during cue-to-cue just use the hotkey when you want to stop a cue. For performances you could disable the hotkey cue so it's not accidentally pressed.
