Recommended Video File Format?

Post by jhuntington » Mon Jul 06, 2020 10:00 pm

I searched a bit on the forum and couldn't find anything.

I know this is a moving target but I have a (yet another sadly online) show coming up where I'll be playing back videos from a bunch of different people. Is there format recommendations I can pass along to minimize codec insanity?

I installed LAVFilters/TVideoGrabber as recommended. So far I've been running MP4 videos from only one person without incident on a decently powerful Lenovo laptop.

Thanks, John

I prefer to use MP4 and have had no issues with this format. Make sure you have the latest LAVFilters installed (as supplied with the latest version of SCS).

I'm having a curious video issue, and I'm wondering if it's my files.

I'm a theatre teacher who also handles all the AV stuff at my school. I've been using SCS for years as it's been a stable workhorse. I've done plenty of AV presentations through SCS with music, videos and static images.

Yesterday, I was running through a show with a TON of video files (39) in the .mov format. The teacher who made them uses a mac and made them there. Monday was fine. Yesterday though, things started to get crashy. SCS actually crashed on me several times while running the show with these cues. I thought, "OK, let's just turn off all non-essential services." I took a few minutes in task manager, put my PC on airplane mode, and the the same stuttering/freezing/crashing happened.

I am using version 11.7.1.3. Hey, it's been a tank thus far! I also upgraded to windows 11, but have run several other AV events with no issues.

Now here's the kicker - I just fired up the .mov based cues. And it purrs. Nothing wrong, no hiccups, nada. Am I just going show crazy/stressing over a blip in the road? I've re-encoded all the video files in .mp4 via Adobe Media Encoder. Seeing if that works.

Any other tips or suggestions?

Could be a buffering issue with so many video files. Have you used anything like this number before? Please email me your cue file (the .scs11 file).
