Panning Problems

I am running version 9.3.2 professional with Roland Edirol UA101 external soundcard.

I got into the theatre tor try my programming today, and have come across a problem whereby I can't pan across pairs of channels selected on the soundcard.

I have 7 channels set up - FOH stereo, US pair, Upstage centre speaker, overhead effects speaker and answerphone speaker. All my cue files are stereo, and I want to be able to route these cues to any loudspeaker (or combination).

I have set the devices used as 3 stereo pairs and a single channel, but if I want to route a sound to the US Left loudspeaker, the panning doesn't work.

I have (just) seen in the help file that there is a limitation in the panning when a device has a loudspeaker selected.

Is this fixed in a later version - I would update but I can't find the mail with the user and password details on!

Alternatively, do I need to re-configure my file to use only single channel loudspeaker settings (not stereo ones) (and re-assign my 100+ cues!). If I do this, Can I still send stereo files to 2 loudspeaker channels and have the channel pair correctly routed?

I love the software generally though - just need to fix this!

Thanks,

Jason

In your Production Properties set up your devices as 4 stereo pairs, even though you will not use the second speaker of the last stereo pair. For example:

Note that the speaker fields are all left blank. In your cues you will be able to sucessfully pan left or right, so with a cue to be played through a single speaker, pan to the appropriate 'side'.

Thanks for the reply - I'll check when I get into the Theatre later but I don't think I have the options in the Physical Device drop-down to set them up like that. Maybe this is a device driver problem and I need to go and tinker wth that?

Any idea when the pan restriction (labelled as 'temporary') will be fixed?

Thanks for the support.
