MIDI Cue Numbers

I have used SCS now for a number of productions, but we are about to run our first show where cues will be triggered via MSC using the 'Go' button on our ETC Express 48/96 lighting desk.

My query is as follows: I know the MIDI Cue numbers are automatically derived from the Cue number. In the Help File it says 'You will be able to change this MIDI Cue Number if required'. I appreciate that I could modify the .SCS XML file to do this, but the help file implies that there is another way?

Am I reading too much into this? Is it only possible to do by modifying the SCS file?

Thanks

Graham,

In the Editor the MIDI Cue field is immediately below the Cue field in the Cue Properties. You can change the value in this field as required, but it does get reset if you change the Cue number.

I've just noticed the MIDI Cue field is not validated so you can enter garbage - I'll fix that later.

Mike, does this field only appear when the MIDI input option is selected? I had never seen this field until now.

Thanks, it seems so obvious now!

Yes, it only appears if the Option 'Control Cues by MIDI Input Messages' is selected.

Dear Mike,

Regarding that MIDI cue number. It automatically completes the program change number as you enter a cue number, add a cue or change something. I would prefer to not have such a automatically feature. In a recently ugly cue list that I have to do, sometimes I had a program change number in a cue that doesn´t have to be midi triggeable. So i have this routine to always check if SCS didn´t add a pgm change in a place that I don´t want one...
For me, I think it´s better to force the user to select or add a program change number then to do it automatically. What do you think?

Cheers,

I guess that depends on how many cues are to be triggered by MIDI. What I suggest in the Help file is that for a cue that is not to be triggered by MIDI that you enter x in the MIDI Cue Number field, as that will never match a real MIDI cue number.

What I could do is provide a new checkbox under the MIDI Options that will enable you to turn off the auto-generation of MIDI Cue Numbers. I'll include that in SCS 10.

Mike,

The x is a good idea! I didn´t notice it at the help files. Thanx.
But I fell that the checkbox option will cover all the tastes...
I´m looking forward for version 10!
Have a nice year!

MIDI Triggered Cues

Mike, I have been running a show using MSC for about a week and I have noticed that even when a cue is disabled it will still be triggered via MIDI.

I appreciate that I could put an 'x' in the cue number field, but I would have assumed that disabling a cue would disable all ways of triggering it? I need to run different cues dependant on the day, and enabling and disabling seems the easiest way.

That's a bug. I'll email you a link for a corrected version to try.
