Remote Control

An idea that may help others ... In the theatre where I normally work the control room is behind glass at the rear of the auditorium which is not very useful for hearing how it all sounds in the Auditorium !! I used to have to take the main mixer out into the auditorium and multicore it all back. Tedious in the extreme !!
Since moving over to the brilliant SCS I have run a cheap and simple cat5 network cable from the auditorium to the control room and use my laptop in the auditorium with windows remote desktop to drive the main sound pc which remains plugged-up in the control room. This is a simple peer-to-peer network with no routers etc, just the single cat5 cable. I have had no problems at all using this method ... it is to all intents and purposes exactly as if scs was running from the laptop. A very simple way to run a rehearsal or show from just about anywhere. The only caveat is that you need XP Pro on the main PC ... but then again you could use any other "remote desktopping" software instead of windows built-in.
