Video Requirements

I just bought a refurbished Dell 5540 15-inch (2020) - Core i7-9750H - 32 GB - SSD 512 GB. Can it handle 1080p animated projections? I couldn't tell if it has the minimum requirements you posted. I will be running sound and video for this production. I did have some stuttering of the video last year on a school computer, so I bought this one. Hopefully it works better.

Hi Henry,
I have a computer like yours and I can play video, music, lights and control the mixer with no issues at the same time.
The video plays smoothly or not depending on the codec, bit rate and frame rate, not only frame size.
I can render a 720p video that will play jerky and a 4k video that will play smoothly in the same computer.
Hope this helps,
LluĂs

Henry, regarding the codec, make sure you download and install the version of SCS 'with LAV Filters'.

I'm building an installation with 8 simultaneous outputs, so codec efficiency is important to play out 8 1080 p files at the same time.
I've made a number of test using mpeg file types, avi's and Prores, and finally found Canopus HQX codec which is used by Grass Valley and was created by Canopus in Japan to facilitate real time playback of DV material back in the late 90's.
I've found this to be extremely efficient, reducing processor loads by considerable amounts. Prores 422HQ was gobbling up 50% when running the project with test files here, whilst Canopus HQX runs at 7%.
You can download a codec pack from Grass Valley for free, it has various qualities available from offline at the lowest end to HQX Superfine.
I hope this may prove useful for anyone attempting big long multiple file handling from SCS.

Interesting. I've had a look at the product on their website (
https://www.grassvalley.com/products/ed ... hqx-codec/#) but can't see a download link.

You should find it here Mike,
https://www.edius.net/hqx.html
Our installation opened on the 9th, I'm successfully running our 8 HD outputs in sync with 5.1 surround sound which is a separate file- On Saturday it rolled on for 6 hours with no sync errors at all - and we have many very sharp sync points.
Great software Mike -
many thanks from us all at LIGHTSCAPE !!
