Any plans to run SCS under Linux?
We run on a Windows 10 laptop and it frightens the heck out of me. Every time we turn the darn thing on we get a "Wait For Updates" and if its ben a few days those updates can take along time. I need to start the computer at least an hour before a show just in case.

It is easy to see why the ETC EOS, Strand NEO lighting consoles and A&H digital sound consoles run on a super stripped and clean, bare bones Window 7. If you have to go Windows this seems to be the most stable and safe (if you make sure they are not connected to the internet and anything we use during a performance we make darn good and sure it isn't).

We regret there are no current plans to support OS's other than Windows.

Not ideal but some tips for managing updates.

I use the setting in windows update to pause updates for a period of time, the maximum is 35 days.

Another option for when you are using a particular network is to set it up as a metered connection. This may also affect other applications however.
For instance onedrive will stop auto syncing. Although you can still force it to.

A couple of habits I've developed for working on my SCS machine are:

I never allow my computer to automatically connect to any internet connection. Which essentially serves to remind me to take action to prevent updates if necessary.

After a production is complete. I make sure to set aside some time to get those pesky updates done. Usually before I go to sleep I'll turn it on, check for updates and let it do it's thing over night.

When running shows, if no network goodness is needed, I run it in flight mode. If network is in use, then it should be a closed network.
