Playing back a lot of video cues

Post by jwblake » Fri Aug 21, 2020 1:54 pm

So I have a production that consists of a lot of video playback. About 12 hours worth of video files, 31 video cues total, to be played in sequential order. No other cues except the video cues. I have set up all the cues to be Activated automatically following the end of the previous cue.
Wanted to check in and see the best practices for playing a lot of video files.

I have noticed that after a few video cues run, the next cue will not seem to not fire automatically, even though it is set to. I wonder if this might be because SCS is set to pre-load only 5 video cues, and won't pre-load any video cues while a video cue is running. I've since increased this value to 30 pre-loaded and I am performing a test now to see if pre-loading all the videos has adverse impact on the computer resources.
I am also noticing that sometimes a video cue will fire but only the sound portion of the video file plays, while the video output is displayed as black.
Curious what might cause this?

Running SCS 11.6.2.1, 64-bit, got the latest LAV Filters, using TVG video driver, video cues play to second monitor on computer.

Increasing the maximum number of pre-loaded video files is definitely helpful - and I'm prepared to raise the maximum above 30. But in addition to that I strongly recommend you upgrade to the latest version of SCS (11.8.3.1). A lot of work went into 11.8.3 regarding improving video playback, and this version has proved to be very reliable. As your current update plan has expired, you just need to purchase a 12-month update plan to enable you to download 11.8.3.1.
