Resyncing of connected screen

Post by BCGTech » Sun Jun 07, 2020 5:12 am

Currently (V11.8.3), a second (or higher) screen must be connected before scs is started if it is to be used to display a video cue. Connecting it after SCS is running results in SCS recognizing the number of screens has changed, but it won't be used unless SCS is restarted. Would there be any way to have SCS resync the newly connected screen while running the same way it does when starting up?

Here's why I'm asking: The theater I'm involved with recently acquired a Viewsonic projector that has a network interface over which telnet commands can be sent to it by SCS. In the setup for the projector is an option to power up on network command. We've done shows where the projector is not needed until (say) the second act but there are sound cues in the first act that SCS will be running. Rather than powering the projector on before the show starts and have the lamp cooking away, it would be nice to execute a control send cue to power up a few minutes prior to needing the projector (aside: we have a shutter that blocks the projector so you don't see any power up splash screens and such).

The current workaround is to exit SCS, use the projector's remote control to power it on, then restart SCS. It would be much nicer to be able to integrate control of the projector into one instance of SCS running.

Hello,

I don't know the Viewsonic projector. We use EIKI in our theatre. These projectors are recognised by Windows and SCS as present, if they are in standby mode, so that powering up and down by SCS works fine via PJNet. May be it's the same with Your projector.

When I was experimenting with different settings for the projector, I remember that it did seem to be present in standby mode but during power-up, the Windows OS (W10) seemed to renegotiate the connection as though I just plugged in the cable and SCS would report the number of screens changed and would require a restart in order to use it. I wonder if this has anything to do with the type of connection... Currently the projector is connected to the PC (an HP laptop running Windows 10) with a VGA cable (probably 50 foot). If it makes a difference connection-wise, we could upgrade to HDMI (would need to purchase).

Next time I'm at the theater, I'll do a bit more experimenting and report any new findings.
