To VBR or not to VBR

Last question post for the day :D

I'm the kind of guy who likes hefty multiple pass renders for strong but visually lossless compression.
When rendering video that is intended for live shows I always use the quick decode functions to ease the burden for the show machine.

Past shows when trying to figure out some choppy playback i found a notation in the manuel saying vbr could lead to problems playing video back to back, and ofcourse i do a lot of fading en things on top of that.
The VBR was not the cause of my current issue but got me thinking.
CBR really needs more than 25% extra bitrate for the same quality, for multiple reasons i want to keep my show files as compact as possible but quality is still defining.

the Manuel says about the topic: the bit rate is set from the first cue and stays that way
I'f used VBR for years without problems but i do always encode at the same average for all video in the show.
Example all my renders are done with HEVC ~8500kbps 3 pass.
Could this prevent vbr problems in playing multiple videos or is it just as ''dangerous'' and is cbr always the way to go?

What do you guys have for experience? :?:
