buffers, latency and sync

Hey guys,

For my new show I have all audio in 5.1, and some separate tracks for monitor lines and stuff.
Im running audio via Asio and have all audio striped from the video tracks because routing of the video audio is very limited

I use the Bass mixer in SCS and have the buffer/latency's settings really on the low side.
My whole system runs on Dante audio and the Virtual sound card and ASIO latency that gets added is like 4ms + 3ms to get out of the computer.
Then the whole network with a couple of hops adds a couple extra ms, and before you know it the video is ahead of the audio :?
If the audio is early its no problem, can just compensate on the mixing console.
But is there any way i can delay or increase a buffer for the video? :?:

Thanks in advance

The only limitation regarding video audio is that it cannot be sent to an ASIO output. Can you let the video playback library (TVG) send the audio to a DirectSound device? It doesn't have to be the Windows default device - you can select any DirectSound device. If you let TVG handle the audio you will not have any syncing problems regarding the video's audio.

Before I always used the dante virtual sound card in WDM mode.
In this way I was able to rout the audio from the video to the same output as the audio tracks.

This show I also use 5.1 positioning audio under the video, and instead of trying to hardcode it in a 5.1 track for in the video file (don't know if that would even work)
I decided to keep the tracks separate so things can easy been adjusted and balanced in the file, instead of having to remux it under a video file.

When running the somewhat complex audio file with just the speech from the video track in WDM gave me a weird time sync issue that I was not able to resolve.
Every 10 seconds the video would stutter badly for a moment, but only on the second screen. Not on my own preview.
Tried to ajust every buffer and setting but was not able to resolve it. (when checking it would also visibly heavy spike in CPU utilization)
I have used this Dell XPS 15 laptop for more that a year for a lot of shows but never had this issue. (think its maybe due to the complexity and size of the IO's) :|
Switching to asio and using only audio files solved the issue but gave me the av synch issue in return.
But Asio is not shown in the video output of course, I could create a virtual audio routing loop but this is also not something that will help keeping things synced.

I also really like the flexibility of the audio routing instead of the somewhat limited video audio routing.
Anyway today my new show machine hardware is being delivered, after that's build i will reevaluate and see if the WDM gives me the same stutter problems.
But any words of wisdom are always appreciated. :D

Hey Mike, if just completed my new video PC and its a little beast.
Confident I tried selecting direct sound or wasapi, and tried it with both bass and without.
Everything plays smooth but again every 10 seconds I get this strange shocking video frame again. (no matter if the video has audio or not, or on mute.)
Also no spikes or anything is seen in the CPU taxing.
I do not understand it, exact same problem on this completely new device, no buffer seems to influence it and don't have this with other smaller show files.
This happens in all video files & not visible in any other player.
This goes away when I select asio as audio device.

I have recorded it, I filmed it with my phone to be sure not to influence anything.

You can see the Task manger for usage, audio devices, running cue with time, and 2th screen.
Its so strange, maybe you have any idea :?:
Otherwise its still Asio for me :?
