Multichannel Configuration Confusion

Great product but I'm in way over my head with tech week just a couple weeks away.

I have a 6 multichannel WAV file that I assumed I could play from SCS via a connected Behringer UMC1820 USB audio interface; resulting in each WAV channel appearing on a different output jack of the Behringer. But all I'm seeing in SCS is a 2-channel graphic display of the WAV file in the cue, not all 6 channels, and the Behringer appears as just a collection of 2-channel choices in the Audio Devices / Physical Devices drop down list (Main Out 1-2 (Behringer), Line Out 3-4 (Behringer), etc.).

Shouldn't the Behringer be available as a multichannel output device choice in Devices and then in the cues I make a choice of which WAV channel goes out which of the Behringer channels, or have I completely misunderstood how these USB audio interfaces work?

Thanks,
Mark

SCS will only display 2 channels on the audio graph, but you should be able to send all 6 channels to your audio interface. I'm not familiar with the UMC1820 but based on my experience and knowledge of other audio interfaces you will probably have to select ASIO as the audio driver in SCS, as the device's DirectSound/WDM audio driver probably only supports 2 channels.

Mike,

Thank you so much. Changing that Audio Driver to ASIO (using BASS) made the USB audio interface appear as the 12 independent channels I was expecting. It was for forehead smacking moment. Thanks!

That success leads to "new guy" question #2. In the audio cue properties I can now pick my output destinations but the track source for those seems to be set to a grayed-out Default. It sounds as if my 6-multichannel WAV file is being down mixed into the stereo and mono Audio Devices I've established for that cue. Do I understand the manual correctly, in that if I want to match specific tracks to specific devices, I'll need to buy and run additional SM-S software and then switch to ASIO (using SM-S)? I'm running SCS Professional Plus, so I'm already licensed on your side, right?

Mark,

I've just a test here playing a 6-channel WAV file via BASS ASIO to my Roland Octa-Capture, and monitored the output using the Roland-supplied Octa-Capture Control Panel. All 6 channels of the WAV file played to their respective outputs of the Octa-Capture.

If your test is downmixing, could you email me a diagnostic file? You can create this file by selecting 'Create Diagnostic File' from the drop-down menu displayed when you click the Help button in the main window. The file will be saved in a folder named "SCS Diagnostics" under "Documents" or "My Documents". Make sure you have the relevant equipment connected before starting SCS.
