(SCS11.7.0) Video playback woes

Hi,
SCS 11.7.0-x64 on Windows 8.1. The Windows install is pretty-much vanilla with all current updates installed. I installed SCS with LAV filters and they appear to be installed correctly. Video driver and renderer are left at the default settings (TVG/auto). Video file is MP4 - H.264 (640x480) with AAC audio, but LAV filters seem to support that combination.
I have a show with a 4x4 USB audio device connected. I have a device map for ASIO (BASS) that works great for all my audio-only cues. Video cues do not map to the USB device though. Their sound is rendered to the headphone socket on my laptop. In a pinch I could feed this to the mixer too but that's a bit of a hack that I'd rather avoid - the headphone output on my laptop is quite noisy. There are no options on the video cue to route to the external device. My device options are "Default" and "Mute". I guess I could extract the audio separately, run it in parallel and mute the video. That will probably create some lip-sync issues though.
The video also renders full screen even though I have asked to scale it to 50%.
Tech starts during the week, show opens in a week. Any hints would be hugely appreciated.
