Cue Activation External Trigger

Post by alauer » Tue Jan 28, 2014 10:30 am

Hi,
I've a Little question about the Activation Cue by External Trigger. I have a midi Keyboard connected to the pc via USB. This Keyboard can send Note and Control Changes. Earlier I used the Option, HOT KEY TRIGGER to start some Audio Files (Samples) while others cues (Audio) are playing. Now I'll use my Midi Keyboard the replace the HOT KEY TRIGGER, so I would Change to External Trigger to activate my (Sample)-Cues. But how can I configure that Sample A is playing when I send the command Note On 1 by my Keyboard, an B when I send Command Note On 2 for example. Is there a possibility to start a Cue, by external Midi In.?

Many thanks

Not quite sure of what you're trying to do, but here's a few comments that I hope will help:
  • If you have MIDI Cue Control set up then any cue can be triggered by MIDI - you just need to set the required MIDI/DMX Cue number. So the Activation Method does not have to be 'External (Trigger)' - it could be 'Manual' or 'Hot Key (Trigger)', etc.
  • If you use MIDI 'Note On' to trigger a cue then SCS ignores the 'Note Off' message, which means you can potentially run many MIDI-activated cues simultaneously (as well as non-MIDI-activated cues).
  • The MIDI 'Note Off' message is only used if you have a Hot Key (Note) cue controlled by MIDI. In this case the 'Note On' will start the cue and the 'Note Off' will stop the cue. The term 'Hot Key (Note)' is derived from music keyboard usage, where the cue plays while the note is held down.

The following description for "External (Trigger)" is from the help file :

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is basically the same as Hot Key (Trigger) except that the cue is expected to be activated by a Cue Control command, such as an incoming MIDI message. More significantly, External (Trigger) is similar to Manual (Go button) with this important exception:
With Manual (Go button), if you try to re-activate the cue while it is currently playing (eg when using non-linear run mode), SCS ignores the re-activation request.
With External (Trigger) and also with Hot Key activation methods, if you re-activate the cue while it is currently playing then the re-activation request is accepted and the cue is restarted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The reason for choosing "External (Trigger)" is so that a cue is not in the main sequence of manually triggered cues and thus cannot be triggered accidentally.
